# How verification works, in short

Offloft checks each file in your bucket after it uploads. It asks the bucket for that exact file and compares its size with the one on your server. Only a file that passes can be served from the cloud. Every thumbnail and every extra image format is checked on its own.

Your site keeps using the local file for anything that hasn't passed. After upload, a file moves through these stages:

1. **Uploaded.** The file was sent.
2. **Checked.** Offloft looks at the copy in the bucket and compares it with the file on your server.
3. **Verified.** The check passed. Your site may now serve the cloud copy.

For the full story, including what later checks can and can't see, read [how verification works](/verification).

## Checking again later

**Verify everything** in **Jobs** checks your cloud copies again whenever you want, without downloading them. Offloft Pro can do this on a [schedule](/docs/pro-scheduled-audits).
