# Replace URLs in old content

Replacing URLs is only needed if a theme or plugin saved full image addresses somewhere Offloft doesn't rewrite. Offloft normally changes addresses as pages are shown, so most sites never need this. The tool in **Tools → Advanced** searches posts, custom fields and settings, shows a preview first, and can undo.

## Steps

1. Open **Offloft → Tools** and find **Replace URLs in database**.
2. Click **Run a dry run**. It's read-only, and shows how many addresses it found in posts, custom fields and site settings.
3. Confirm you have a recent database backup. Offloft also saves the changed rows so you can undo.
4. Click **Replace URLs**. It runs as a job that you can pause.

## Undo

Click **Undo from backup** in the same place. It puts the saved values back, and leaves alone any value that has changed since.

Do this before you [bring everything back](/docs/bring-everything-back) and before you delete cloud copies, or those images would break.
