Serve your WordPress media from Backblaze B2.
Offloft copies your WordPress media to a Backblaze B2 bucket you own, checks every file and image size in the bucket, and only then serves it. B2 is low-cost, includes downloads up to three times what you store, and has no minimum duration. The free plugin does all of this.
Why Backblaze B2 for WordPress?
B2 starts at a low price and bills only for what you store, with no minimum duration.
Downloads are free up to three times your average monthly storage. Backblaze also lists CDN partners, including Cloudflare, with free egress.
Public files are a per-bucket setting. Backblaze first asks you to verify your email address and to have a payment history.
| Storage | From $6.95 per TB a month. The first 10 GB is free |
|---|---|
| Visitor downloads | Free up to 3 times your average monthly storage, then $0.01 per GB |
| Minimum storage time | None |
| Custom domain or CDN | The bucket address works straight away. Your own domain through Cloudflare or another CDN |
| Free tier | The first 10 GB of storage |
How Offloft works with Backblaze B2
Each file is uploaded, then checked in your Backblaze B2 bucket. Only after that does your site load it from the cloud. If a check fails, your site keeps using the local copy.
Setup in short
- Create a B2 bucket with Files in Bucket set to Public.
- Copy the endpoint shown on the bucket.
- Create an application key for this bucket, with Read and Write.
- Copy the keyID and applicationKey into Offloft, then run the connection test and the delivery check.
Pro on Backblaze B2
Automatic setup covers Cloudflare R2 and Amazon S3 only, so you set this bucket up with the guide. Everything else in Pro works the same here: scheduled audits, automatic repair, alerts and safe removal of local copies.
Questions
Why does Offloft need an application key rather than my master key?
The master application key does not work with the S3 API. Create a key limited to this bucket.
What if I can't set my bucket to Public?
Backblaze first asks you to verify your email address and to have a payment history on the account.
Do I need a CDN with B2?
No. The bucket's own address works. A CDN is optional, and lets you serve files from your own domain.
Your media, in your bucket, checked.
Install Offloft free. Setup takes five steps, and nothing moves until the connection test passes.
