01Install OffloftInstall the free Offloft plugin from a zip file, and check what it needs.
- 1Download the zip from the download page.
- 2Go to Plugins → Add New → Upload Plugin and choose the file.
- 3Click Install Now, then Activate.
- 4Open Offloft in the admin menu. The setup wizard starts there.
02Your first offloadThe setup wizard in order, from choosing your storage to starting your first offload.
- 1Storage. Choose your provider. Each one has a step-by-step guide for its own dashboard.
- 2Connect. Paste your access keys and bucket. A live connection test checks each step and points at the one to fix if something fails.
- 3Delivery. Choose the address your media loads from, and run the delivery test.
- 4Safety. Choose your safety defaults: keep local copies, and offload new uploads automatically.
- 5Scan. Run the pre-flight scan. It counts your files and flags anything that would get in the way.
- 6Start. Start offloading. It runs in the background, so you can close the page.
03Moving your existing libraryRun the pre-flight scan, then offload every existing file in the background with pause and cancel.
To move an existing media library, run the pre-flight scan in Tools, check what it found, then start Offload everything in Jobs. Work runs in the background in small batches, with pause and cancel. New uploads offload by themselves. Each file keeps loading from your server until its cloud copy is verified.

Offloft needs WordPress 6.5 or later and PHP 8.1 or later with the cURL extension, plus a bucket with Cloudflare R2, Amazon S3 or any other S3-compatible storage. You bring the bucket and pay your provider directly. Background work needs WordPress's scheduled tasks to run.
